Carat
As with all precious stones, a diamond’s weight is measured in carats, which is
equivalent to .2 grams. One carat is divided into 100 “points” so that a half carat
stone may be referred to as “50 points.” Size is the most obvious factor in determining
the value of a diamond, but two diamonds of equal size can have very unequal prices
depending on their cut, clarity and color. However, remember that diamonds of high
quality can be found in all size ranges.
Here are some other examples that show the approximate size of diamonds of varying
carat weights.
Determining the carat weight that is right for you is often a balancing act. Considerations
include the size of her finger, the width of your engagement setting and your budget.
